Jeannette Ilse Pennington

June 29, 1926 — March 12, 2011

Jeannette Ilse Pennington (Jeanne) was born on June 29, 1926, raised by her grandmother during WWII, and emigrated from Heidelberg, Germany to the United States because she had heard so much about Texas and wanted to see it with her own eyes. She met her husband of 24 years, Melton, in El Paso, and remained here after his passing in 1982. Always putting the family’s needs before her own she worked as a cashier before becoming a home healthcare provider, which she truly enjoyed, for more than 10 years. Her self sacrificing nature carried over to her love for her animals that allowed them to be spoiled to their hearts’ content. She is survived by her son Daniel who was also spoiled (wife Rosy), and her brother Erwin Feuchter (wife Edith). Those who both knew and loved her will both remember and miss her, greatly. The family would like to acknowledge the Texas State Veterans Home, specifically the Physical Therapy Department, for their inability to recognize that a person’s unwillingness to participate in exercises might be due to an underlying physical ailment instead of just being cranky and uncooperative. Also, Las Palmas Medical Center that instead of inserting her dentures so that she’d be able to chew solid food, instead inserted a feeding tube through her stomach when she refused to eat the acrid puree that they provided. Finally, Odyssey Hospice is thanked for making her final days as comfortable and pain free as possible. We love and miss you, Mom, and hoped that you would not ever have to leave. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am, Monday, March 21, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home-West with a Graveside Service at 1:30 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
