Nancy Jean Mullings NÉE Holmes, entered into eternal rest on February 10, 2023 at the age of 89. She attended Lone Star Schools and graduated from El Paso High School. Jean earned her degree from Texas Western College/UTEP. She educated countless children as a teacher in EPISD and retired from Putnam Elementary School after 36 years of dedicated service.
Jean met her best friend and lifemate, Joe, while square dancing; they were married in 1956 and welcomed their son, Joseph “Jody,” in 1961. Over their 58-year marriage, Jean and Joe opened their home to nieces, nephews, and eventually Jean’s beloved mother. Jean and Joe were committed members of the Mt. Franklin Baptist Church community, serving in various capacities. Jean loved spending time with her family - immediate and extended - and was devoted to their nurture and care.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Edward Mullings; her parents, Joseph Winslow Holmes and Effie Burnett Holmes; and her sisters, Mary Catherine Harris, Helen Eisert (Charles); and twin sister, Jane Beets (John). She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Melanie Mullings; grandchildren Katherine Mullings and David Mullings; her great-nephew/bonus brother to Jody, William James “Jamie” Bromley (Jill); and many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Jean was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, neighbor, and teacher. She will be remembered for her caring love and generosity. Jean’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to caregivers Elena De La Vega, Ana Gurrola, Rosie Vasquez, and Magda Garcia and appreciation to Envision Hospice.
