J.C. Jones

SGM J.C. Jones, age 90 passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020 in San Antonio where he was being treated and cared for by his children. He was born in Kelloggs, LA, the son of the late Olivia Carpenter and Walter Anthony Jones. J.C Jones was a retired Sergeant Major. He received multiple awards and commendations during his military career of more than 30 years and served in combat tours of both Korea and Vietnam. J.C. Jones was a life member of the Sergeants Major Association, the Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion. He also worked as the Chief of the Central Issue Facility on Fort Bliss before retiring from that position as well. He enjoyed fishing, cooncan (card game) and spending time with friends and family. SGM Jones is survived by his children, Vera Coleman of Marina, CA, James Jones (Debbie) of San Antonio, TX, Yvonne (David) Mundy of McKinney, TX, Francine Jones of San Antonio, TX, Beverly (Tim) Reed of McKinney, TX and Carl Jones (Melany) of San Antonio, TX, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife Inez Jones and their son Andrew Jones, sisters Lillian, Leonia, Geneva, Erma, Mamie, Dorothy and brothers A.C. and William. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive, El Paso, TX 79904 on Monday, January 20, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be at 9:00 a.m. on January 21, 2020 1st Armored Division Chapel; Fort Bliss, TX. Interment will follow at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home- Northeast.
