Janet Louise Lawson

March 7, 1932 — October 15, 2017

Janet Louise Lawson, age 85, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, took her last breath October 15, 2017 in El Paso, Texas. She was born on March 7, 1932, the daughter of Fred and Lois Lawson. She lived primarily in New York State in towns including Fredonia, Dunkirk, Cassadaga, Ithaca, and Candor before moving to El Paso, Texas to be close to family. In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her son Anthony Charles Amoroso, as well as her brothers Cleon, Gary, and Glen Lawson. Janet is survived by her daughter Terri (Ernesto) who provided loving care and advocacy for her mother, tending to her side until her last day. In addition, Janet is also survived by her granddaughters Jessica Andrews and Karlene (Ryan) Stackhouse; and beloved great-grandsons Darion and Damarcus. Janet graduated with a teaching degree from SUNY Fredonia. Most of her career was spent as a 4th grade teacher at Candor Central School District in Candor, NY. There she loved and was loved by many of her students. Despite the mental decline associated with Alzheimer’s, Janet continued to smile in acknowledgment the mention of longtime colleagues and friends Paula Lewis, Linda Henry, Cheryl Weber, and Deanna Houck that were dear to her heart. Janet was a strong, ambitious, and determined woman. Throughout her life she lived with tenacity and strength. She was a mother, a teacher, a foster parent, a grandmother, and great-grandmother. Janet was a lover of pets and was always providing a loving home to at least one dog if not more. She loved books, music, gardening, and was an avid walker. She lived life to the fullest from getting her motorcycle license to buying and rebuilding a dilapidated house in Cassadaga, NY which she reconstructed with almost no help, even when it came to the roof. Janet’s family would like to especially acknowledge the remarkable care provided by Martha Ricci and staff over the past several years. Janet’s was so well taken care of, made comfortable, and was given the upmost compassionate and respectable care.
