Rev. James DeWayne Richardson has changed his permanent residence to a city not made with hands. He passed from this life on August 2, 2018. Born January 4, 1940 in Slaton, TX, at age six, he lost both parents to tuberculosis and was raised by his aunt and uncle in Pecos, TX. He began college at UTEP then transferred to Hardin-Simmons University after a call to the ministry. There he married Wanda Gaddis and returned to EI Paso in July of 1969 and has served the Highland Park Baptist Church as pastor for 49 years. As a chaplain in the U.S. Naval Reserves and teacher in the EPISD, both choir director and softball coach, he worked at many jobs in life but always continued to sing Christian music because that role would continue into heaven.
He is survived by his wife Wanda (Gaddis) Richardson, four children: Rev. Dan Richardson of EI Paso, Dr. Wenda McCutchan of North Carolina, Dr. Sarah Fiscus of Garland, Tx, and Vera Eidson of Oklahoma, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00-9:00pm on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 08, 2018 at Chapel of the North Hills. Committal Service will follow at 1:00pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
