CW4 James Francis Mitchell, born in Austin, Texas on August 22, 1946 to Maston and Helen Mitchell and leaving this world for the next on July 21, 2018. Jimmie grew up in Rosenberg, Texas and New Braunfels, Texas. Jimmie graduated from New Braunfels High School and earned a degree in business from South West Texas State University. He spent 32 years in the army in the Air Defense Artillery. Jimmie had three tours of Korea, and traveled to Germany with the family. He served in Desert Storm and had multiple assignments at Ft. Bliss and travelled to much of the world while serving. During his career he worked with the Nike Hercules missile system, the Hawk Missile System and then the Patriot Missile System. Jimmie loved being a soldier and loved serving his country. He met the love of his life and they married in 1971, and went on to have 3 sons that he was so proud of and taught them how to work on car and how to ski. He was equally proud of his grandchildren, Brooke, Victoria, Ryan, and Alyssa, and his great grandsons, Noah and Connor. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Maston and Helen Mitchell, and his in laws, H.A. and Jennie Mae Schmidt and his three brothers in law, Gary, Andy, and Frank Schmidt, and his sister in law Raedean Poole. Left to carry on are his loving wife, Susie Mitchell, his three sons, Mark (Sherry), Curtis (Tara) and David (Monica) along with his grandchildren Brooke Mitchell (Tyler), Alyssa Mitchell, Victoria Gifford, Ryan Gifford, and great grandsons Noah George and Connor Galliton, numerous nephews, nieces, his favorite brother in law Frank Poole, and friends around the world. When he was not being a soldier, he was out drag racing, riding his Harley, or snow skiing. He was a National Ski Instructor and was once voted one of the top 100 ski instructors of America. Jimmie never met a stranger and could talk to anyone, usually telling them numerous corny jokes.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday July 26th 2018 followed by the Scripture Service at 9:30 a.m. on Friday July 27th 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast 4631 Hondo Pass.
