James (Jim) Lewis DeWitt, 80, passed away March 3, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. DeWitt was born in Tulsa, OK on Sep 18, 1921, and moved to Meridian, MS during his youth before entering the US Army in 1942. Mr. DeWitt retired from the US Army with over 20 years of service as a SFC. Mr. DeWitt served in World War II and the Korean Conflict and was awarded the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze and 1 Silver Service Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. After 10 years of Federal service as a Department of Defense civilian at Ft. Bliss, TX, Mr. DeWitt was employed by Western Technical Institute of El Paso, TX as an automotive instructor, where he retired in 1991. Mr. DeWitt was a longtime resident of El Paso, TX before he retired and then moved to Sheridan, AR in 1994. Mr. DeWitt was survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy DeWitt; his son George and daughter-in-law Rachel DeWitt of El Paso, TX; his daughter, Cyndi DeWitt of Hensley, AR; 3 Grandchildren, Nicole and Chad Stewart of Little Rock, AR and Cory James DeWitt of El Paso, TX; and two great grandchildren Gabriel and Kaya. Mr. DeWitt, with full military honors, will be laid to rest along with his beloved wife, Together Again, Forever, at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 13, 2014. A Memorial Service will begin at 5:00 p.m., Friday, June 13, 2014 at 9014 Leo Street; El Paso, Texas 79904. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
