James Campbell Hargraves

Hargraves, James Campbell James Campbell Hargraves died on December 31, 2012 at William Beaumont Army Hospital. He was born August 19, 1929 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Donald Shumway Hargraves and Janet Augusta Campbell Hargraves. After graduation from Memorial High School Middleboro, Massachusetts, he enlisted in the US Army from which he retired after 20 years. During his military career he participated in combat operations in the Korean War and served in Engineer and Air Defense Artillery units in Korea, Japan, Germany, and the United States. Following his retirement from the Army, he attended the University of Texas – El Paso, earning a Bachelor of Arts (Physical Education) degree in 1971. After teaching and coaching at several middle schools in the Ysleta Independent School District, he worked for the El Paso City Parks and Recreation Department, managing several recreation centers and programs throughout the city until his second retirement in 1988. He was preceded in death by son Andrew Hargraves. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Ann Ferris Hargraves, sister Janet Abigail MacLaren of Medway, MA, and children John (Ann) Hargraves of Fayetteville, NC, Peter (Cathy) Hargraves of Rome, Italy, Ann (Peter) Sergienko of Portland, OR, and Mary Jane Cobaugh of El Paso. He also leaves behind a niece, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His remains will be interred, with military honors, in Arlington National Military Cemetery alongside those of his parents. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
