James Richard Ford

April 26, 1927 — September 3, 2010

James Richard Ford, 83, passed away on Friday September 3, 2010. Jim was the youngest of John Peter Ford and Gertrude Anne (Symons) Ford’s four children. Jim was a native El Pasoan who grew up in the Five Points neighborhood. He lived up to his mother’s dreams by graduating from the University of Notre Dame. Jim also served in the Navy toward the end of World War II.While at Notre Dame, Jim travelled to New York to watch the Irish defeat West Point. In New York he met Mary Burke, a beautiful girl from Georgia who was attending school in the City. They married soon afterwards and settled down in El Paso. They had five daughters: Beth Ford, Katie McCrory, Susie Young, Tricia Smith and Judy Peinado. Jim worked in sales for most of his life, much of it at Momsen-Dunnegan-Ryan Co., working his way up to President before the company was sold. On the weekends, he spent time working in the yard, tending to his always-thriving plants and lawn. Following a few hours in the sun, he'd start up the grill and sit back to enjoy a beer and cigar. Sunday mornings, he was a regular at St. Pius Catholic Church, teaching CCD or serving as a minister of Communion or usher. After Mary died, Jim married Regina (Gene) Jennings. The couple married in Ruidoso, site of many weekend trips they enjoyed. Jim and Gene were married for 23 years and travelled as often as possible, especially enjoying cruises. Gene has one son, Mike Jennings.Jim, a man who loved life and his family, was cheerful and resilient even in his last days. He was perfectly content to spend his days reading a good book and hearing the latest stories and accomplishments of his seven grandchildren.
