James Joseph Carter Sr. was born on September 24 1924 to Willie and Beulah (Simpson) Carter in Hollandale Mississippi. James was a farm boy and a preacher’s son who would later travel the world and leave his legacy in El Paso Texas. James being an adventurous boy who travel with his siblings Nathanial Carter, Alfreda Boone, Lilly Mae Hardin, Harvey Carter, Rosie Lee Carter, Herman and 2 children who died as infants. Pastor Willie Carter traveled with his family from Mississippi, Arkansas, and finally home in Denver Colorado. James was on a train coming from Ft Bragg he met his wife Ms. Johnnie E. Smith and shared 69 years of marriage. Their Union birth 5 children Joseph, James II, Vera CarterShields, William and Leonard Carter. The family traveled the world for 22yrs with their father. James quiver was full with grandchildren Ryan, Natalie, Justin, Christopher, Scott. Great Sophia, Elizabeth Rose, and Oliver. James married Leticia G. Carter in his later years gaining step daughters Gina Garcia, Sarah Long and Step Son Aaron R. Wall. James enters the military May 1943 retirement in April 1966. WWII was calling for ready soldiers and he came aboard as a mechanic, Ordinance, logistic, Missile guidance at White Sands Missile Range, and medic, but his most talked about duties as Ambulance Company in WWII and duties as member of 555th "Triple Nickel" - All Black Paratrooper unit and later 82nd Airborne. MSGT James made his final flight on Oct 9, 2018 leaving behind a family of friends and relatives. Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
