James R. Biggs

March 8, 1943 — June 5, 2012

James Biggs surrounded by family and friends went home to the Lord June 5th after valiantly battling a long illness. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the US Army serving 22 years. He continued his support of the military by working for MWR as a Computer Specialist. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Laura; his sister, Betty; and his brother, Robert. He is also survived by his son, Bobby, Bobby’s fiancé, Alejandra; his son, James Michael and his daughters, Wendy and Cindy. Jim helped care for his three grandchildren, Hallie; Natalie; and Rosalinda. He also is survived by an extensive extended family and many adoring cats. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie; his father, Rufus; and his brother, William. Jim was born March 8, 1943, and grew up in Oregon. After retiring from his technical work, Jim devoted his free time to his family and El Paso community organizations. He worked at the San Antonio Church food pantry, assisted Father Kobe from Christ the Savior Church providing services to veterans and was very active in the ACTS program at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Jim served on the allocations panel of the United Way of El Paso, volunteered for the Sin Fronteras Organizing Project assisting migrant farm workers and participated in UTEP Alumni Association events. He was a strong UTEP Miner fan who had football season tickets and passionately loved the Washington Redskins. Jim was known for his dry and witty sense of humor, also enjoyed travel and was an avid reader. The Biggs family would like to thank the William Beaumont Army Medical Hospital ICU staff and surgical doctors for the care they provided Jim. His rosary is set for Thursday at 7 p.m. and the memorial mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. Both services will be at Christ the Savior Church, 5301 Wadsworth Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to Father’s Hearth Hermitage, 104 Tobar Way, El Paso, TX 79912.
