My beloved father, Jacinto “Jed” Duran Jr., age 81, entered eternal life on December 27th, 2023. He was an El Paso native raised by his beautiful mother, Soledad Ybarra Duran, and father, Jacinto Duran Sr. He was lovingly known by his younger sisters as, “Jr.” but also known as “Jed” or simply “Duran” by multiple family members and close friends.
Duran was a proud Army Veteran who bravely served our country during the Vietnam War. He was a respected and well-loved veteran who was once commended and awarded medals for Good Conduct, for his Vietnam Service, for Sharpshooter and 1st Class Gunner.
Duran’s gallant bravery, sacrifice, and strength continued well beyond his military service. He vigorously fought many health battles over a span of 26 years. Duran was a man of great valor and best quoted by Michel de Montaige, “Valor is strength, not of the legs and arms, but of heart and soul.” He was a hero to many but particularly in his granddaughter, Kyli Guerrero’s eyes. We will always remember his unique quirky sense of humor, strong will, fierce persona, and generous heart. He will be missed dearly and stay forever in our hearts and live forever in our memories.
Jacinto was preceded in death by his parents; Jacinto Sr. And Soledad Duran, granddaughter; Laney LeAnne Guerrero; his beloved son; Jed Duran; and his adored sister; Teresa Pena.
He is survived by his daughter, Erika Hernandez and numerous grandchildren; David M. Duran, Tori La’Borde, Gage Hernandez, Gabby Guerrero, Kyli Guerrero, Cauy and Lianna Patterson; his great grandson; Aaron Trey Duran; his siblings Rosa Martha Sinclaire, Olga Arreola, and David Duran. He is also survived by his many extended friends and the Martinez family who all love and miss him dearly.
