Irene F. Marquez

Irene Federico Marquez, passed away on Saturday,December 15, 2012 and joins her beloved husband Jose A. Marquez. She is survived by her only daughter Dr. Helen M. Castillo (William) and three loving grandchildren Angel Balch (Marc),William R. Castillo Jr. (Hiam Azar) and Cesar Castillo (Penny), living in Wilmington, VT, El Paso and Nashville, TN; three great grandsons Zach and Cameron Balch and Richie Abraham Castillo. A very spirited, witty, and independent lady, she was an avid reader and remained in good health for most of her 96 years. Born in Cd. Juarez to Adelaida Garcia and Juan Federico, the family resided in El Paso where she attended grade school and graduated from El Paso High School. Later, she joined Lombardy Jewelers, a premiere Italian jeweler and watchmaker in El Paso before moving to San Francisco, CA where the family lived for many years. They later moved to Los Angeles where she continued her education and worked for the County of Los Angeles Mental Health Division as Executive Assistant to Dr. Areta Crowell, who became a long time friend and mentor. Several co-workers also remained steadfast friends. She retired in El Paso where she volunteered at Morehead Middle School and loved her work with children until her husband's health issues intervened. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her younger brother Robert Federico and sister Mary Louise F, Dyer. We will all greatly miss her and thank her care givers especially Claudia, Patricia and Hospice El Paso staff. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 pm, Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 20, 2012 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Utep Woman's Auxillary or El Paso Hospice.
