Ira A. Budwig

Ira A. Budwig, Jr., M.D., passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2009. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Grace Budwig, his sons Andrew and Ralph Budwig, daughter Sandra Watson, step-daughter Rossana Seyffert and nine grandchildren. He attended the University of Illinois graduating with honors in 1944 going on to complete his doctorate in 1946. While in attendance, Dr. Budwig was also president of Alpha Omega Alpha, the honorary medical fraternity. In 1947 he joined the U.S. Navy where he was a Lieutenant M.D. After serving in the Navy, he completed his residency Pediatrics at Cook County Children’s Hospital in Chicago, IL. Dr. Budwig joined Dr. J. Travis Bennett in 1951, forming a long time pediatric practice from which he retired in 1992. While operating his practice he was medical director for the Rehabilitation and Cerebral Palsy Center from 1964 to 1981, medical director of Diagnostic and Evaluation Clinic from 1968 to 1981 and an instructor of pediatric nursing for Hotel Dieu School of Nursing from 1952 to 1973. Dr. Budwig had a lifelong passion for the Chicago Cubs and was an avid golfer and long time member of Coronado Country Club. His unique golf swing earned him the nickname “Irate Ira” when on the golf course. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 13, 2009 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of El Paso, Humane Society of El Paso or Animal Rescue. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
