Hillie Eugene Newman was called by the Lord on Saturday, May 30, 2009. He was born December 12, 1939 in Augusta, Georgia. Hillie was brought to Fort Bliss, TX while serving in the U.S. Army until 1973 with the Hawk Missile System. He was the manager of Kent Station in NE El Paso then he became the Service Manager of White’s Auto in East El Paso. He had his own business “Mobile Wrench” for 21 years. He then worked as a supervisor at Raytheon, Dimensions Int. in Iraq, and R.A.M. Corp. Hillie received an Assoc. Degree in Automotive from EPCC, was A.S.E. Master Certified in Automotive and other A.S.E. certifications, and was a Six Sigma Specialist. He had many hobbies such as bowling, stock car racing, going to car shows, and he was a Webelos leader for B.S.A. He liked to spend his leisure time watching boxing matches, John Wayne, and Clint Eastwood movies. He also had a 67 Chevelle that he loved dearly. He was later diagnosed with lung cancer on April 11th ,2009 that had mastesized to the brain. Hillie was a very giving man and would give his shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He was a great listener and would help you through any problems you had. He had a heart of gold. Survived by his loving wife and companion of 34 years, Jean “Beth,” children; Sandra McAllister, Michael (Vera), Deborah “Dee” Long, Edward “Alan” (Jeannie), April Blum (Richard), David (Christina), Melinda Hayes, Joseph (Eva), and Victor; 22 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Noah “Gerry ” Newman and Morgan Lankford; sisters, Rachel Owsley and Joyce Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his son, Hillie E. Newman Jr.; parents, Hillie C. Newman and Geneva O. Simmons; and sister, Linda Richardson. He is loved and will be missed tremendously by immediate family, extended family, and many of his surrogate children. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 pm, Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a Memorial Service at 6:30 pm. A Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. The Committal Service will follow at 11:30 am, Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, East Pavillion with Military Honors. Interment: at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Many thanks and appreciation to all family and friends and to Dr. Gupte, Dr. Chesbro, Dr. Ascherl, their immediate staff, and to VNA Hospice.
