Hildegarde Horan Consiglio. 96 years old, left to her heavenly home on Monday May 10, 2021. Hilda was born in Breslau, Germany October 4, 1924. As a member of “The Greatest Generation” she survived the Great Depression and the Second World War. After the war she worked for the American government where she met her first husband, James M. “Jim” Horan. The two were married in Schwabach, Germany March, 1949. They remained faithfully married until her husband's death in 1993. Six years later she married for the second time to Mr. George Consiglio, remaining married until George's death in August 2018.
Once her children were born Hilda never held a paying job. Instead, she worked hard raising her three children, James, Peggy and Dennis. Peggy was born in 1956 with Down’s Syndrome, so Hilda and Jim faced the additional challenge of raising a child with little initial medical support. Hilda became interested in church service in 1963, becoming the sacristan at Blessed Sacrament Church, where she served over 40 years. She was also active in the Rosary Altar Society, the 3rd order of Franciscans, the RCIA program, as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the parish council and as a money counter.
Hilda is preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Anna Scholz; first husband James M. Horan, second husband George Consiglio; and by her daughter Peggy. She is survived by her sons Dennis Horan (Lori) and James K. Horan (Myrna), and by her devoted granddaughter Justina, as well as five other grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her lifelong friend Mrs. Barbara Hanlon.
We wish to thank Justina Horan for her constant care of “grandma” for the past three years, to the nurses and CNA’s at Global Hospice, Visiting Angels and Outreach; to Ivonne Hernandez, Monica Torres, Maria Gutierrez, Vidi Pena, Joshua Colón, Dee Perrins, and to Mrs. Bernie Collins who brought Hilda communion regularly. Visitation will be 1:00 – 4:00 PM Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass, with a Rosary at 2:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, May 20th at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament followed by Interment for Immediate family only at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
