Hilde Hagemann

March 12, 1922 — February 22, 2013

Hilde Hagemann, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Feb.22, 2013 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Horst Hagemann. Hilde is survived by her son, Harold and his wife Pearl, sister Gisela Hoffmann of El Paso and several nieces and nephews in Germany and America. Having emigrated from Germany with her husband and young son to pursue the American dream, the family lived in Arizona and Ohio for a short time before coming to El Paso in 1959. She loved El Paso, the great weather here, her neighbors and her friends. She and her husband participated in the November 23rd 1964 performance of Brahms “Requiem” as members of the International Choir with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra. This performance in the old Liberty Hall was one of her fondest memories. Hilde was introduced to classical music and opera as a young lady in her native Germany and supported the arts in El Paso. She appreciated attending the productions put on by the UTEP Dinner Theatre, not only for the great performances but also for the wonderful meals served, always with delicious desserts that were very much to her liking. Hilde and Horst traveled the world after Horst’s retirement from UTEP. They enjoyed traveling abroad, having visited many foreign countries, some even two or three times in their twenty years of traveling the world. Their favorite place was what they considered their home town of El Paso, as they thought of themselves as Texans. All who knew Hilde will remember her as a spunky, honest and independent woman. She demonstrated her faith, her Lutheran upbringing by the way she lived her life. Per her request, she will be cremated and laid to rest next to her husband at Restlawn Cemetery. As Brahms quoted, in his German Requiem, Opus 45 for choir and orchestra, in which they performed, from Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall have comfort”. Private services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home –Northeast.
