Hilda Anderson Kendrick

Hilda Anderson Kendrick, 93, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011. Born in Sour Lake, TX, Hilda attended Texas Women’s University and later taught business in East Texas, where she met her husband, Wallace. They were married in December 1940. In 1941, Hilda began a 30+ year career as an army wife, caring for her husband and family through three wars and many military assignments. She served as a volunteer for military charities and Friends of the El Paso Library. After retiring to El Paso, Hilda and Wallace were active in military and civic groups and made many friends. Hilda moved to Tucson, AZ, after Wallace’s death. In her later years, Hilda met the challenges of increasing sensory deprivation and afflictions with grace and dignity. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Wallace M. Kendrick (ret.), her son Wallace M. Kendrick, Jr. Mac), her parents, and her brother, George Anderson. She is survived by daughter, Karolyn (Peter Schmidt) in Tucson, son George (Susan) in South Dakota, daughter-in-law Patricia in California, and five grandchildren; Katherine, Christopher, Jonathan, Elizabeth, and Alexander Kendrick. Graveside services will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso on April 18 at 10:00 a.m. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina.
