It is with a heavy heart I come to you to let you know that Henriette J. Smith (Oma) has passed away on July 31, 2023, at 4:25pm. Henriette “Oma” was born in Düsseldorf Germany to Antonio and Sophia Leemans, March 9, 1928.
Oma married Albert J. Smith and came to America where she was a homemaker and later was the owner of Smith’s RV Sales and Rental in El Paso until 2004.
She was a wonderful cook, and gardener. Her fried chicken and German potato salad will be missed by all. Oma had a green thumb; whatever she threw in the ground grew,
She is survived by her daughter, Johanna Gillette (Ed), grandsons Eddie and Tony Gillette, granddaughter Christy Moreno (Oscar), grandson A.J. Smith, 6 great grandchildren, Taylor, Ryan, Alexis, Dominic, Diego, Hanna, and 1 great great grandson George Michael Meraz.
Oma was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Sophia Leemans, her son Johnnie Smith, and husband Albert J. Smith, siblings Johanna Braun, Adolf, Anna and Lena. She was loved and liked by all. Oma will be missed tremendously by her family and extended friends.
Visitation will be Aug 9, 2023 6:00-8:00pm, 7:30 prayer service at Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass. Final viewing at 8:00am and committal service will be Aug 10 at 9:00am at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at D’Santo’s Foster Care for the loving care and support they provided for Oma. A special thanks to Chrissy and Irene her new found friends.
