Maria Elena “Helen” B. McBain, “Nana”, 83 was called home on February 26, 2014 to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, after a long illness.
Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Nana was devoted to the Catholic religion and dedicated many hours of volunteer work at San Antonio Catholic Church. Prior to Nana being diagnosed, she enjoyed watching TV, shopping with her sister, “Aunt Mary”, baking her famous peanut/pecan brittle, knitting blankets and spending time with her grandchildren.
Nana retired from EPISD after twenty years of service as a Teacher’s Aide, with the special needs children, in which she enjoyed.
Romans 8 verse 38: For I am convinced that nothing could ever separate us from God’s love. Death can’t and life can’t. The Angels won’t and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears today, our worries tomorrow, or where we are-high above the sky or the deepest ocean, nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us.
Nana is preceded in death by her beloved husband George A. McBain, Sr.; and daughter, Georgina “Gina” McBain. She is survived by her sister Maria B. Hernandez and sister in law, Espie Berry; sons: George (Cindy), Luciano (Sofie), Paul McBain; daughters: Johanna McBain, Margie McBain (Ron)-Caustrita and Pauline (Frank) Muela; grandchildren: Clint (Vanessa), Brandon, Mathew, Courtney, Elijah, and Samantha McBain, Zachary (Jessica), and Lorren Muela, Kristin (Jeremy) Sembera; and great grand-children: Austin, Anesa, Alyssa, Addison Mcbain, and Karden Sembera.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m., with a Vigil to begin at 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home East, located at 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass will be at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at San Antonio Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clint, Brandon, Mathew and Elijah McBain, Zachary Muela, and Jeremy Sembera. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joseph and Ernie Hernandez, Jr., George, Paul, Luciano, Steve and Austin McBain, Ron Caustrita, and Frank Muela. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
