Haydee de Los Angeles Chavez, cherished mother, wife, sister, and most of all, beloved Nana, was finally reunited with her son and husband in Heaven on August 18th, 2011. Born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico Oct. 2nd, 1926 to Dolores de Los Angeles Acosta de Acha and Luis Acosta as the 4th of 6 girls, Haydee moved to New York City with her mother and sisters after the death of her father at age 11. It is there that she met the love of her life, Rafael Chavez, and where they began a life and family together. Haydee is preceded in death by her only son, CWO Rafael A. Chavez, her husband of 64 years, Ret. Command Sergeant Major Rafael Chavez, and her grandson Kenny McGill. She is survived by her two daughters, Amy McGill and Karen Chavez, her granddaughters Gina, Michelle, Liane and Lauren, and her 8 great-grandchildren: Trever, Aubrey, Daniel, Bailee, Sarah, Lola, Scarlet, and Jude Rafael, as well as her beloved sisters Irma, Cindy, Candy, and Lolin. She loved and nurtured every single one of us with a fiercely protective love, and was sassy and sarcastic all the way to the end. Nana was tough and strong, but always a lady and she embraced life-rollercoasters, scary movies, practical jokes, camping-she loved to have fun. Nana, we love and miss you so much, no words can do it justice.
