On June 17, 2024, at the age of 77, Harry Vance Whitehill III, D.D.S. M.S. passed away peacefully with his wife Deborah by his side, the love of his life for 37 years
Harry was born on December 21, 1946, in Baird, TX to Harry V. Whitehill II and Vestina Lambert Whitehill. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Deborah; his brothers-in-law Thomas O. McCabe (Grace) and James Patrick McCabe; sisters-in-law Marie McCabe, Mary Jean McCabe Wilgus, and several nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Harry graduated from W.H.Burges High School in 1964 and then attended the University of Texas at El Paso, earning a degree in Biology. He earned a doctorate in dental sciences from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and later received a degree in Endodontics. The King Faisal Royal Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia recruited him while he was still in school, and he worked there for six years. He travelled every opportunity he had.
He was active duty in the army for three years. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army Reserves for 27 years where he achieved the rank of Colonel. Col. H.V. Whitehill III served as Commander of the 907th, a dental unit in Albuquerque NM, for three years. He dedicated his life to service, both in the military and in the El Paso community and various places throughout the US and South America and his legacy of service and dedication will be forever cherished.
Harry began building his endodontic practice on the east side of El Paso, in 1984, and served the El Paso community for over 30 years. Harry was a member of the El Paso Dental Society and The Archaeological Conservancy.
His hobbies and interests included traveling the world with his wife, exploring, hiking, collecting art, and experiencing different cultures and cuisines. He also enjoyed birdwatching, raising cactus, exploring the southwest and collecting antique dental tools and paraphernalia.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on August 31, 2024 at the Coronado Country Club, 1044 Broadmoor Dr. with a reception afterwards. His cremains will be interred at the St. Francis De Sales Cemetery in New Burnside, Illinois.
