Harry John Stone, Jr., born on December 18, 1933 at Ennis, Texas. Passed away on February 26, 2008. His parents were Ruth Baugh and Harry Stone, Sr. He graduated from Ennis High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Baylor University. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Carol McPherson Stone, daughter Julie Stone Prilliman, son-in-law David Prilliman, grandson John Prilliman, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, David Stone, brother Beecher Stone, and sisters Marjorie Power and Ruth Rentz. He was founder and Chairman of Professional Investment Counsel, Inc. He served as Sun Bowl President in 1979, where he was instrumental in the expansion of the Sun Bowl stadium. He served as the first President of the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House and as Chairman of Board of Directors at Sierra Medical Center. He was a member of the Rotary Club of El Paso, Los Viejos, and El Paso Country Club. Mr. Stone served as a director of several banking institutions, most recently as a Founding Director on the Board of Bank of the West. He was the youngest Eagle Scout in the Dallas Area Lone Star Council of Boy Scouts, achieving the honor at age 13. He was later honored as a distinguished Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the El Paso Conquistador Award for his outstanding contributions to his community. He served on the Baylor University Hankamer School of Business Advisory Board and was appointed to the Texas State Sunset Commission. He was a member of Coronado Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons and as a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years. He taught the Challengers Class for over 20 years. The members of the Challengers became family to him. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the time on the course and in the clubhouse with his many friends. Harry loved life and lived it to the fullest extent possible. Memorial Service will be at 11:30 am, Friday, February 29, 2008 at Coronado Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Coronado Baptist Church Building Fund, The Junior League of El Paso Endowment, or a favorite charity. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
