Obituary for Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Harold E. Howell. CSM (Retired) Harold E. Howell was born 17 September 1953, to the late Hazel Howell who preceded him in death. Following a long illness, God called Harold home on April 24, 2020 with his family by his side.
In 1973 Harold enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with honor for over 30 years and retired as a Command Sergeant Major in 2003. During that time, he received a Legion of Merit Award, 2 Bronze Star Medals and 7 Meritorious Service Medals.
On March 7, 1992, he was united in matrimony to Anna Harris and was a faithful and loving husband.
Following his retirement in 2003 of over 30 years in the United States Army, Harold worked as a Contractor Training Analyst for CAS Inc., Huntsville, AL on Fort Bliss, TX. Harold was medically retired with over 14 years of service with CAS in 2017.
Harold loved the Lord and was a faithful founding member and Board member of Fellowship of Love Christian Center. He served as the Senior Deacon and was honored with the title of Deacon Emeritus in August 2019. For the past year and a half, he was a resident of the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home where he received wonderful care. Harold’s illness did not hinder him from attending church on Sundays.
Harold served the community in many ways to include: President of the Inter Club Council (4 years), President of the El Paso Chapter of the NAACP (8 years) and he was a regular host of KTEP’s (Radio Station) Best of Gospel under the leadership of Betty Robinson. Harold served in many capacities in the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America. Amongst them he served as a Past Potentate of Oro Temple No. 9, Deputy Imperial Marshall where
he was honored as Emeritus in 2018.
Left to cherish his memory are is his wife, Anna; children Rashonda (John) Jones, Jeremy Howell, Tiffany Harris, Clinton (CJ) Harris and Aaliyah Carter; He had one child who proceeded him in death, Jacques J. Howell. Brothers Rev. Melvin (Rev. Carolyn) Howell, Elton Howell, Landrus Howell; sister Minnie Ann (Roy) Cooper; his precious grandchildren, Jaydan Harris and Jordan Jones; and his nieces, nephews, cousins, God children and many friends.
Harold will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had a passion for helping others. He will always be remembered as someone willing to go out of his way to help anyone in need.
Due to the current health risks/restrictions, a private family service will be held at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast. Family/friends will be able to watch a live stream of the service. Interment, will follow on Friday, 1 May 2020, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
