Gwendolyn Odessa Mapp

Gwendolyn Odessa Vaugh Mapp transitioned on March 16, 2024, joining her beloved husband, mother and father in paradise with our Lord and Savior. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 8, 1934. Daughter of the late Jessie Hines Vaugh and Henry Vaugh. Educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. Graduating from Paul Lawrance Dumbar High School.

Raised in the church and committed her life to Christ at an early age. As a member of United Baptist Church, she participated in a variety of activities which carried over into her adult life. Gwendolyn’s passion for caring lead her to careers in nursing, law enforcement and motherhood. 

Gwendolyn in1956 meet the love of her life, Gilbert A. Mapp who she married and love until they were only separated by death and with her being called home will be united again. Another passion for Gwendolyn was traveling. The Bahama was her favorite; however, she had traveled the world. Her love for traveling leaded her to plan a Cruise for friends & family on her 90^th birthday. She will not be there physically, yet we all know she will be with us in the spirit and in our heart.

Life’s journey for Gwendolyn was one of joy and happiness. The thing she would love for you to remember is to be HONEST. Honest to yourself first. Always TREAT people the way YOU want to be treated. Be ACCOUNTABLE for what you do whether its GOOD or BAD. 

Her Life has been a journey filled with peaks and valleys. She wants you to: Remember I’m too Blessed to be STRESSED Because GOD has said If I (you) do MY best HE will do the REST. 

Gwendolyn Odessa Mapp, 89, Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, with Funeral Service at 12:00 PM on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Committal Service will follow at 1:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
