Gwendolyn Ruth Berry

Gwendolyn Ruth Berry, 73, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

She was born Gwendolyn James in The Bronx, NY on May 20, 1950, where she lived, graduated high school, and worked on Wall Street until moving with her family to Oakland, California in 1972. Before the move she reconnected with her high school boyfriend Rodman Berry.

Roddy and Gwen married February 9, 1974 in Oakland and began their military lives that September, traveling across the United States and Europe before settling in El Paso in 1988.  During their travels she collected bells, and historic Germain mugs, welcomed daughter TiJeat in 1983, sang soprano in the Gospel Service Women’s Choir, and worked for First Light Federal Credit Union. She enjoyed gardening, singing in the choir, crochet, driving long distances with her husband for vacation, and dreamed of seeing the Grand Canyon.

She was preceded in death by both parents, and three siblings: Arthur Sidney James, Johnnie C. James, Preston James, Elaine Skinner, and Arthur Sidney James Jr; as well as her husband Rodman H. Berry. She leaves behind her daughter TiJeat N. Berry, and baby sister Donna Yvette James-Saunders.

Visitation will begin at 11:30am with a Funeral Service at 12:00pm, on Wednesday August 23, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, Texas. Burial to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.  Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast – www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net.
