Gustavo Vega

November 5, 1961 — August 29, 2009

Our beloved father, husband, son and brother Gustavo Vega Jr. born on November 5th 1961 passed away on August 29th, 2009. His untimely and unforeseen passing occurred while riding his bike as he customarily did a few times a week. An avid cyclist, with a true passion for the sport, his cycling days started as a teenager and ended when the Lords calling came. He was part of El Paso’s ever growing cycling community. He wished that one day all motorists would courteously share the roads with vulnerable cyclist. Gustavo, known simply as Gus or JR to most, was a dedicated father, husband and provider for his family. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, of almost 25 years and his wonderful sons, Aaron, Christian and Julian. Also survived by his father Gustavo C. Vega; mother, Leandra E. Vega; brothers, Art ( Melissa) and Louie; sisters, Rosa, Yolanda and Grace; In- laws, Socorro and Consuelo Ramirez; sister in law, Irene Garza ( Dickey), Toni Hernandez ( Norbert), Maggie Campa ( Jim); brother in-law, Arturo Ramirez and 23 nieces and nephews. Gus served proudly in the US Coast Guard and was a “ Miner” at heart as he was a graduate of UTEP. Visitation will be from 4:00-9:00 PM Thursday, September 3, 2009 with a Vigil at 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home- Americas. Mass of the Resurrection will be said at 9:00 AM on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, ( Main) located at 131 S. Zaragosa.
