Grover G. Dowdy Jr., 86, Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2012. 1st Sgt. (USA Ret.) Dowdy was born on May 3, 1926 in DeKalb County, Alabama. He joined the Army in 1945 and served in the Philippines during WWII. He proudly served his country for over 20 years. After two re-enlistments, he retired in 1973. He discovered a fondness for gems and jewelry making during his time in the army, and what started as a weekend hobby grew into a successful business. For over 20 years he owned and operated Circle D Jewelry in Northeast El Paso, which is still in business today. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many years of camping and fishing in the Ruidoso and the Gila Wilderness areas. He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Linda Kebschull and Myra Looper. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 64 years, Iris LaRue Dowdy of El Paso, his son Daryl Dowdy of El Paso, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and will be remembered and remain in our hearts. Committal Service will begin at 1:30pm, Friday, May 25, 2012 Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
