Gloria Ruth Marquez Russell

Gloria Ruth Marquez Russell, born on August 4, 1933 in Socorro, TX, passed away on February 24, 2024 at the age of 90 in El Paso, Texas. She was the daughter of Refugio Marquez of Socorro, TX. She married in 1958 to Robert Lee Russell of Van Horn, Texas, and they were together for forty seven years. They owned and ran an Enco Service Station on Dyer street in the early 1960’s, across from H&H Car Wash.   In 1966, they transitioned to Cielo Vista Exxon Service Station, located at I-10 and Hawkins, where they stayed in business for over thirty five years. Gloria took care of the books for the business, and Robert serviced the community at the shop. Gloria and Robert raised six children, and all attended Crosby Elementary and Irvin High School.   

She was an active member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she found solace and community.  She was very involved with the church's Altar Society, serving in various capacities. She made sure all her children were raised in the church, knowing the importance of finding Jesus Christ in their heart. Gloria had a talent for painting with oils, sharing her skills by giving painting lessons to many friends.  She enjoyed her Northeast YMCA where she had a great community of friends and loved water aerobics. Gloria had a flair about herself in the kitchen.  She loved baking cakes and cookies for weddings, creating the most delicious meals for friends and family.  She prided herself on making homemade red enchiladas, serving them with cold beer. This was hers and our favorite meal.  She was a shy, kind soul that knew no strangers. Gloria was always ready to help, and willing to serve.

Gloria is survived by her sisters Alicia Marquez Trujillo of Clovis, CA, Maria Erlinda Trujillo Hernandez of Ysleta, TX, her children Joseph Edward & Laura Russell of Filer, Idaho, Robert Lee & Alyssa Russell of Little Elm, TX, Theresa Ann Russell of El Paso, TX, Michael Anthony & Jill Russell of Minneapolis, MN, Yvonne Amanda & Tommy Hines of Boerne, TX, Jeff Carter of Las Vegas, NV, fifteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Russell Sr., her daughter, Cecilia Antoinette Carter, her sister Anita Trujillo of Clovis, CA, and her brothers Andres Trujillo and Eduardo Trujillo of Clovis, CA. 

Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm with a Rosary at 6:00pm on Thursday, March 07, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive.  Funeral Mass will begin at 9:00am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9025 Diana Drive.  Committal Service to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson.
