Gloria M. Holguin, 94, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
Gloria was born in Colorado City, Texas, on June 11, 1930. Having spent much of her childhood living along the US-Mexico border, she called El Paso home after her marriage to her beloved husband, Joe, in 1955.
A tender, generous, and charismatic soul, she spent her days doing all she could in the name of her family and faith. With a smile that could double the beauty of the universe, she committed herself to accepting any obstacle that came her way with grace. Gloria felt deeply yet lived lightly. As a young woman, she studied at a technical college and worked at Municipal Government Offices. In her late years, she was a proud volunteer for the Child Crisis Center Thrift Store and member of the Rosary Altar Society at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Her faith was unwavering. She was an avid reader who made sure to always surround herself in plants and flowers, and never turned down an opportunity for some retail therapy. She was a pillar of love, and her life was an enduring mural of strength and resilience.
Gloria is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Jose Ignacio Holguin; her parents, Carlos Mendoza and Celia Vidal Mendoza; and her siblings Ernesto, Carolina, Lilia, and Carlos. She is survived by children Anna Uyarra (Tony), Bertha Schmidt (Gary), Victor Holguin (Heide), and Celia Holguin; grandchildren Justin, Erick (Gabby), Margo, Daniel, Fred, and Alex; and great-granddaughters Camila, Natalia, and Evelyn; and sisters Maria Elena, and Leticia.
