Gilberto Hernandez, Jr, 59 passed away late afternoon on February 1, 2023. Gilberto was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and close friend to countless people who knew and loved him. Gilberto was a retired employee with Sun Metro. He also served 3 1/2 years in the United States Air Force, and also was retired after 20 years with the El Paso County Sheriffs Department. While working with the Sheriff’s Department, Gilberto also worked as a volunteer firefighter for the residents of Emergency District #2 West Valley Fire Department. Gilberto loved watching all sports and especially the Dallas Cowboys. Gilberto is survived by his beautiful wife, Dora, of 29 years, parents Mr. and Mrs. Gilberto Hernandez, Sr., brother Carlos Hernandez, and sister Virginia Veilleux (Andrew). Gilberto, Jr, was also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, great nephews and nieces, and many cousins. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 pm, with a Vigil/Rosary at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Dr. Funeral Mass will begin at 9:30 am, Thursday, February 16, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant Rd, with Fr. Michael Lewis officiating. Committal Service to follow at 10:30 am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
