Gerald A. Ekstrand, “Tex,” 78, passed away on October 4, 2012. He was survived by his wife of fifty years, Margareta M. Ekstrand. His children: David, Katherine (husband James) and Therese (husband Bo). Grandchildren: Melissa (husband Walter), Cory (wife Robin), Christopher, Shelbi, Tiffany, Kassi and Karina. Great-grandchildren: Nina (husband Gerrod) and Julie (Ryan). Great-great grandchildren: Layla, Laylanie and Alex. His parents were Hilmer A. Ekstrand & Florence L. Neverman. His siblings were Judy, Virginia, Ralph and Roy. Mr. Gerald Ekstrand served 20 years in the United States Army and died as a 100% DAV. He was also a faithful volunteer, known as ‘the candy man,’ at the Wellington Chew Senior Center for many years. He loved to fish and was at peace, at home in his garden, also known as ‘the jungle.’ Other people of interest: Klaus, Karl Heinz, Josi, Klaus Jr. & wife, Rochus & wife, Paul Thomas and all other dear family in Germany. Also, Doug, Paula, staff and friends at Ambrosio Guillen TSVH (special thanks to Gloria), VFW 8919, EP American Legion, Dana & Doris, Sonny & Evelyn, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Montoya, Tony, Mickey, Alpha, Anneliese, Blackmans, Ms. Hargrove and the Bungers. The family thanks everyone for their kindness and condolences. Mr. Gerald “Tex” Ekstrand would have truly appreciated it all. His presence will be missed by all who knew him. A Committal Service will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
