George Mariano Puchi beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, & friend to so many was called home to be with the Lord on December 30th, 2012. George is preceded into God’s glorious eternal Kingdom by his beloved wife Gloria Puchi, his parents Narcisco & Mariana Puchi, and his two brothers & four sisters. George began life’s journey on February 22, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of El Paso. As so many patriotic citizens of his generation, George heeded his Nation’s call to arms and proudly served his Country during World War II on the beaches of Normandy & the invasion of Germany where on those distant battlefields, George was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. Upon returning home after victory, George continued his journey down life’s path and became a manager for the Thom McAn Shoe Stores and managed numerous stores throughout the El Paso area. George earned many awards during his time at Thom McAn’s including “Best Manager,” & “Mister Thom McAn” among others. After 35 years of devoted service, George’s journey down this road came to an end as he retired to enjoy his golden years. As a man, George was a kind and tender soul, always happy, and always smiling. One of George’s greatest passions in life aside from his family was Boxing. George was amateur boxer in the Featherweight division with numerous victories to his credit. George will also be remembered as the finest handyman anyone had ever known. If it was broken, George could fix it. And now after a long & fruitful life, George’s journey is complete. George is survived by his four daughters Nancy Montes, Patricia Puchi, Christine Puchi, and Deborah Ortez along with their husbands. George’s legacy will be carried on by his six grandchildren Jacob, Erick, Marlo, Natalie, Allyshea, and Bryan, and his seven Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2013 with a vigil at 7 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 am Monday, January 7, 2013 at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
