George W. Bedell

July 21, 1921 — December 19, 2007

LTC George W. Bedell (U.S. Army Retired) born in Wylie, TX on July 21, 1921 to the late Thomas N. and Mary E. Bell, passed away on December 19, 2007 in El Paso, TX. At the age of nine months his family relocated to Dallas where he remained until he joined the military during WWII in 1943. His tours of duty included both the Far and Middle East, and Europe for a second term. His military career was a great experience and was highlighted by his command of McGregor Range from 1961-1962. With the assistance and support of the Commanding General at Fort Bliss and the Commanding General of the 4th Army in San Antonio, he was able to institute many improvement programs to enhance the atmosphere, moral, and efficiency of the range. He retired from the pentagon in 1967. He was preceded in death by his beautiful, loving, and devoted wife, Gwen. She loved El Paso and insisted that they make it their home when he retired. She was very active in his military career and he would like to thank her for their life together. He is survived by her loving family whom he’d like to especially thank for their loyalty and for accepting him as a member of their family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast. Graveside Service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2007 at 1:00 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Interment will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
