Gary Paul Rouyer, 83, passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2025, in Horizon City, Texas. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas.
Gary earned a master’s degree in counseling from Northern Arizona University and was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. He went on to become a counselor for a Navajo Reservation school in Arizona for two years. He retired after 15 years as a guidance counselor at Montwood High School in Soccoro ISD in El Paso,TX. During his time at Montwood he became a member of the UTEP chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. Gary enjoyed counseling and mentoring students; his office door was always open to those who needed help.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gary served his country in the Army Reserves for five years.
Gary loved to listen to music and jazz was his favorite. After retiring, he enjoyed playing baseball with a senior 50+ baseball team. He shared a very special bond with his beloved ‘wolf’ dog, Laska.
He is survived by Jane Rouyer, his loving wife of 38 years; son, David Rouyer and wife Jennifer; stepdaughter Brooke Sebastian and husband Kirby; stepson Don Hollowell Jr. and wife Kristi; grandchildren Amelia, Eve, and Fridolin; step grandsons Bennett and Bryant. Gary was predeceased by his parents, Eugene A. Rouyer and Dorothy B. Rouyer; brothers, David Rouyer and Richard Rouyer, and step grandson, Donnie Hollowell III.
The family will celebrate Gary's life privately and wishes that those who knew him remember him with love.
