Gary R. Hoff, 70, went to be with his heavenly father on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Born in Santa Fe, NM, he grew up in Albuquerque and El Paso. He graduated from Eastwood High School in 1969, establishing himself as an all-star athlete. He went on to play football at Sul Ross State University.
He started in the bar business with his father, which turned into a restaurant called The Blimp, that was in business for 40 years in downtown El Paso.
Following the death of his son Garett, in 2014, he dedicated his life to fighting the war against drunk driving. He was a major advocate and spokes person for the MADD Foundation (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). In 2019 he started his own foundation S.A.D (Stop Alcohol Driving) in honor of Garett.
Gary Hoff was preceded in death by his son Garett Hoff, and parents Robert and Lavonne Hoff. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie Hoff, siblings; Rose Smith, Terry Hoff, and Robin (Kenny) Brookes. He will be affectionately remembered by his nephew, niece, and great-nieces.
Gary touched the lives of many and will forever be missed. A Memorial Service will we be held at Sunset Funeral Homes- East, 750 N. Carolina on Friday, April 16th, 2021. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with Memorial Celebration at 10:00 AM followed by Interment at Evergreen East Cemetery.
