Gabriel B. Silva

Gabriel B. Silva, 83, died May 6, 2008, He was Born February 26, 1925 on his parent’s farm on Limitarcita, NM. On the farm he had six brothers and one sister. In his late teens during the last year and a half of WWII, he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific. His ship engaged in battle by long distance firing but his ship was never hit He saw five different countries during the war but he kept his service quiet and personal. He later maintained his civic duty by volunteering his services to VFW, and Lulac council 132 from 1970 until 1992, he was also a member of the Elk Lodge # 187. Every year he looked forward to welding and assembling booths together in preparation for the Fiesta de Las Flores. In his twenties he married Maria Teresa Aguirre, his wife of 37 years. Together they raised three girls and three boys in El Paso. They later had thirteen grandchildren together. He worked at Asarco in El Paso from 1957 until 1987 when he retired. In his retirement he remarried to Ida Taulbee his wife of twelve years. He and Ida enjoyed traveling, dancing, and cooking, and his favorite hobby was fishing. Ida took very good care of him all the way to the end. His family, extended family and friends will miss him. His children are: Gabe Silva and his wife, Sandy Silva: Irma Inez Romans and her husband Greg Romans: Alma Teresa Prince: Irene Kernan and her husband Jim Kernan; Raul Silva and his husband Douglas Clegg; Oscar Silva and his wife Maxine Silva: Grandchildren: Aaron Silva, Max Silva, Victor Silva, Heidi Romans, Gretchen Romans, Tomas Prince, Teresa Prince, Patricia Kernan, James Kernan, Lucy Kernan Forrest Kernan, Elaina Silva and Dustin LaFleur, In-laws: Loretta Silva, Donald Prince and kimberly Touche. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 8, 2008 from 4-9 pm with a Vigil at 7:30 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-East located at 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass at 8 am Friday May 9, 2008 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. Service entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
