Gabriel Gomez

Gabriel Gomez, age 71, passed on February 13, 2012. Gabriel is survived by his loving wife, Aurora; daughter, Christine Wallace; sons, Buddy Gomez and Joshua Gomez (Cristina); grandchildren: Christian Wallace and Alexandra Allison; sisters: Mary Sanchez (Marc), Leonor Hernandez (Roman), and Teresa Sanchez (Jose); brothers-in-law, Nick Baquera (Liz), and Salvador (Rose). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and long-time friends: Mary Barrett and sons, Charley Baby, Buford (Cindy), James Gabriel (Sherry); Phil and Linda DeHoyos, Ruben and Bonnie Gomez, Jack Combs, and Henry Maynard. Gabriel was a proud Army veteran, serving in the 101st Airborne Division, and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a retired truck driver, who worked for Hadley Auto Convoy for 32 years. Gabriel was a member of the Law Enforcement Lion’s Club in Amarillo, TX, where he received the Lion of the Year award. Gabriel was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing in Colorado with The Lost Trail Creek Mine fishermen. He also relished the time spent with the Pecos Group fishing in Del Rio. He loved hunting and fishing in Oklahoma with the Barrett Family. Gabriel was a dedicated family man who treasured time spent with extended family. He expressed his love through his cooking and his “special projects”. He was a man of integretity who lived his life to the fullest! He will be remembered and missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Lion’s Club. Memorial Visitation will be held from 6-8:30pm with a Vigil Rosay to begin at 7pm, Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:45am, Friday, February 17, 2012 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
