Fred Martin Belanger, cherished husband, beloved father, and kindest soul passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on May 13, 2024. He is survived by the love of his life, wife Mary, daughters Jennifer (David) Martin, Joellen (Edward) Stammel, Mari-Lynn (Milad) Farah, son Bobby Belanger, grandchildren James, Natalee, Lauren, Aubrey, Mallory, and Morgan, sister-in-law Linda James, and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was born in Nashua, New Hampshire to Phillip and Gilberte Belanger. He attended the United States Military Academy and graduated in 1965 with honors. Fred served his country in Vietnam during the TET Offensive, where he was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery. He gave the Army over 20 years of service. He continued to share his brilliant mind with the government, designing missile systems to protect our country as Deputy Test Division Chief of the Air and Missile Test Directorate.
Fred met Mary when he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas and the two were married within six months. They welcomed two baby girls while living in Woodland, California where Fred received his master’s in applied science at UC Davis.
He brought his family back to West Point, where he taught math and physics, and then moved back to El Paso. Fred was sent to Korea, and it would be a year before he saw his wife and young girls again. They stayed in El Paso and welcomed another daughter and a son in the coming years.
Fred was an avid Cowboys and Boston Celtics fan, but he loved his family above all else. The love he felt for his wife, Mary, was immeasurable. He will always be remembered as an incredibly brave, intelligent, generous, selfless man, and the kindest soul in the universe. Fred will be missed more than words can ever express but he will live in our hearts forever.
