Giordano, Frank L., M.D. – age 81 of El Paso departed this life Saturday, Sept. 10th, 2022.
Dr. Giordano graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine and after completing an internship at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital and a psychiatric residency with Letterman Army Medical Center, he began a vast career practicing and teaching psychiatric medicine. He also completed a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
Dr. Giordano proudly served 20 years in the United States Army, including active duty during the Vietnam War, earning many honors including the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Order of Military Medical Merit among others, retiring with the rank of Colonel. Upon return from Vietnam, Dr. Giordano accepted countless responsibilities including Chief of Department of Psychiatry at William Beaumont in El Paso twice. Before retiring, he served as Director of Residency Training at Texas Tech Medical School in El Paso.
Dr. Giordano enjoyed many interests approaching them all with passion and energy. He became an excellent amateur photographer. He had a love for fast automobiles and owned several throughout his life. While stationed in Germany, he earned a racing license from the Jim Russell School of Racing in England.
Dr. Giordano rescued and loved many pets during his lifetime. Goody, his rescued Afghan Hound who “chose him” was most special.
Preceded in death by parents James and Josephine Palumbo Giordano. Survived by loving wife of 45 years Ruth Anna Giordano, children Mary Andrews (Mike), Jim Giordano (Jo), Jeannie Giordano-Shanks (Brad), Marc Giordano (Shelley), step sons Rick Najera (Pat) and Michael Najera, 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters Joanie Cassano and Jeana Giordano, godson John “Buck” Buchanan, D.O. and several other nieces and nephews.
