On September 25, 2022 Florencia Reyes, a beloved mother, wife, the eldest of 10 brothers and sisters, and caring nurse, passed away at the age of 70. Born to Gregorio and Bernardina Ramirez from a humble beginning in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico, with her iron will and help from her family, she studied to become a nurse in the Centro Medico de Especialides in Cd. Juarez. In Juarez she met her husband Ruben Reyes, an engineer at the facility where they worked. They started a family bringing their children Edna, Fabiola and Ruben into this world, and worked incredibly hard to provide a their children a good future. They went on as a family to immigrate to the USA, living 23 years in El Paso, then moved closer to their children in Houston who became working professionals (doctors and engineers) in Houston and Dallas.
When she became ill, she enrolled in clinical trials for her pancreatic cancer through the Baylor College of Medicine. These trials resulted in invaluable research data. Her selfless act will result in treatments that will save lives in the future as her legacy lives on. She has been called a hero by her children, and was respected amongst her caregivers for her commitment, discipline, and positive attitude.
She is survived by her husband, children, and two grand children. Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home-West on Tuesday October 4, 2022 from 5 to 9 pm and church services will be at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 10 to 11 am. In lieu or flowers, Florencia has asked for donations that may be directed to the memorial fund: www.bcm.edu/giving/mtanner (please change the honoree name to Florencia Reyes).
