In 30 years, our father, Filiberto Chairez, Sr., missed only one day at the El Paso Times (Herald Post) as a photoengraver---that one day was to lay to rest his daughter, Alicia Chairez. He would have continued to work for many more years but his wife, our mother, Hortencia’s, health became critical and so obligated him to stop working. He devoted his entire self to caring for our mother and together they enjoyed their lives, sharing each other's love with us, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. When our mother's health required a nursing home, he was at her side from morning until night, even during a 19 below zero wind-chill could not keep him from her side. He'd sing her Spanish love songs from their younger days when they could float across the dance floor with such grace and symmetry. On Easter weekend their love story came to a close; God called him to his side, no other but the Lord could have pried our father from our mother's side. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5-9pm with a Vigil/Rosary to begin at 7pm, Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
