Kibungan, Philippines – August 19, 1940 “Del” was born into a small mountainous farming province. Second eldest in a large family of brothers and sisters, he once pursued law studies, but decided an opportunity with the United States Navy would afford more opportunities in 1962. After initial training in San Diego, he came back to the province to court and marry schoolteacher and love, Auring in 1969. Together in Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, son Ed was born in 1971. Del’s service includes several early deployments on ships, notably on Hospital Ship Sanctuary during Vietnam and Aircraft Carrier USS America. Coming from a family familiar to medicine, he shifted his Navy path by completing Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes and fulfilling land-based postings in Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune and ending a 22-year Navy career at White Sands Missile Range as HM1. Not ready to be tired, Fidel continued another 20 years supporting WSMR as a DoD Security Officer. Parents Hencio and Galmesa Monte now have their son in heaven with them. His wife, son, brothers, sisters – along with a multitude of nieces and nephews and dear family here and overseas love and will miss him dearly.
