Fermin M. Otero

October 30, 1929 — March 20, 2010

Fermin M. Otero was born in Capitan, NM but chose El Paso as his home. He honorably served his country for 26 years in the US Army which included 2 tours in Vietnam. During his service he was awarded numerous commendations including the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device 4 o/s bars, Vietnam Service medal with 5 bronze stars, Army Commendation Medal with OLC and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany). Upon his retiring as an SFC (E-7), he worked over 20 years for the US Postal Service. He was a proud life member of the VFW Post 8919 and considered his fellow members his second family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cruz and Teodora Otero, brothers, Mariano and Lupie, and sisters, Mary and Sophie. He is survived by his ex-wife and long time friend, Pepita Lyons of El Paso, TX, brother, Miguel (Barbara) Otero of Roswell, NM, sister, Elva (Harold) Allen of Highland, CA, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He left an imprint on the lives of all who were lucky to have known him. He will be forever in our hearts. Visitation will be from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon, Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. Committal Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Interment: Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
