Evelyn Iola Herlong

Evelyn Iola Herlong was called home by her Lord on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the age of 100 years old. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ulric (Jim) Herlong and her parents, Henry & Daisy Asbury. Evelyn was born in Lawrence, Indiana on March 19, 1921. She was a “daddy’s girl” and enjoyed spending time in his plumbing business. Her grandmother would take her shopping and would reward her with a “tootsie roll.” She enjoyed tootsie rolls throughout her life. Evelyn married (Jim), the love of her life on December 22, 1960. They had a 47 wonderful years of marriage. The couple lived at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana where Jim was stationed with the U.S. Army and later in Germany. His final assignment was at Ft. Bliss, Texas. They decided to retire and make El Paso, Texas home. They loved to travel, shop and eat out! Evelyn was a member of the Church of Christ in Eastwood, where she was always willing to help wherever she could. She and Jim were the greeters for the church and loved meeting people. After Jim’s death, Evelyn moved into a retirement home and enjoyed the activities they provided. While there are no survivors, Evelyn did leave many friends who loved her dearly. Graveside services will be held on January 18, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Charles Clodfelter will be officiating.
