Eva Guadalupe Torres Plaza passed away on March 31, 2021 of natural causes, surrounded by her family and friends. She was 88 years old. Eva was a woman of great faith who poured her energy into her family and her church community. She made friends easily with people from all walks of life and all ages. Her loved ones will miss her quick wit and joyous manner.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Guillermo and Eva Torres, her husband Sergio Plaza Sr., and her brothers Jose Torres and Armando Torres. She is survived by her beloved children: Eva Plaza Mandel (Eric), Angela Plaza Herrera (Rudy), Sergio Plaza Jr., and Tina Plaza Whoriskey (Peter); and her loving grandchildren: Lisa Martinez, Cynthia Heredia Soliz, Albert Heredia (Kimberly), Amber Blanquiz (Chris), Raquel Toledo (Brian Kroener), Sergio Plaza III, Gabriel Plaza, Alec Whoriskey, Matthew Whoriskey, and Luke Whoriskey. Eva is also survived by her doting great-grandchildren: TJ, Michael, Vyctoria, Savanah, Sienna, Anthony, Albert, Audrina, Petra, CJ, Calina, Sienna, and the youngest, her namesake, Eva.
A woman of little formal education but great tenacity, grit, and perseverance, Eva’s legacy is evident in the happy lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her dedication and guidance gave her descendants the choices and opportunities in life that she did not have.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021, from 5:00 to 8:00pm, with the Holy Rosary at 7:00pm, at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 11:00am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where Eva was an active parishioner and volunteer for decades. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
