Eugenio Pargas

November 15, 1923 — October 17, 2016

On October 17, 2016, our beloved Eugenio Pargas, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Matilde Pargas and sons Ramon and Carlos. He is survived by his children, Emy Hernandez (Tony), Roberto Acosta, Eugenio (Rosaura) Pargas, Natalia (Samuel) Gutiérrez, Guille (Mario) Rodriguez, Lola Pargas, Alfredo (Maria) Pargas, Irene (Johnny) Franco, and Ricardo (Melissa) Pargas. He also leaves behind 24 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was born in El Paso, Texas on November 15, 1923 and moved to Colorado where he lived as a child. He came back to El Paso where he later met and married the love of his life. He served three years active duty in the United States Navy from 1944 to1946 on the USS Ajax (AR-6) during World War II. When he and his “Chaparra” (as he lovingly called her) were not busy traveling or taking spontaneous road trips to California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, he enjoyed taking long walks up the Franklin Mountains. One of our most cherished memories was when he took an extra-long walk up the mountain and failed to come home. After several hours of family, friends, and first responders searching for him, he drove up safely, with a family friend, at the search and rescue scene wondering what was going on and offered to assist with the search. His passion for carpentry allowed him to build homes and play houses for his children and grandchildren. He was a hard worker and got to travel to many places. He especially loved being surrounded by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing stories about his childhood. He will be missed and forever in hearts. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home West. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 5750 Doniphan. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, with Military Honors.
