Esther Powell

Sunrise April 5^th, 1943      Sunset June 18^th, 2023

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:6-7

On June 18^th, 2023 the almighty God called the name of Esther Powell and she answered the call.

Esther was born on April 5^th, 1943 to the late Alexander and Mary Ray Jackson. Esther confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Saint Paul Baptist Church by the late Reverend Allen O' Bear Sr.

She married her high school sweetheart and enduring husband Ernest Powell Jr. From that Union was born four children Victoria, Patricia, Ernest Charles Sr., and Milton.

Esther Powell leaves to cherish her memory her four children Victoria Powell Gadson, Patricia (Thomas) Jefferson, Ernest Charles ( Zina) Powell Sr., and Milton Jerome Powell, seven grandchildren: Delessia Latoya Kincade, Chrissalle Deanne Jefferson, Karren (Bryan) Gadson Espinosa, Bernard (Amber) Gadson Jr., Ernest Charles Powell Jr., Timantre Monroe Powell, Guthria Colbert Powell, 6 great grandchildren: Jayden Dimitri Kincade, Camille Skye Kincade, Tyrone Sharrod Billingslea, Tania Simone Billingslea, Cynthia Nicole Gadson, and Bernard Gadson III (aka. Bear), two brothers: Ellis (Juanita) Ray, Leroy (Geraldine) Ray, as well a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Powell Jr. (aka. EJ), her parents Alexander and Mary Ray Jackson; four brothers Alexander, Joseph, Edward, and James Jackson; four sisters, Shirley Singleton, Cethel White, Willie Mae Clark, and Dorothy Mae Ellis; her grandson Kevin Lemont Jefferson, great granddaughter, Tamia Nychelle Jefferson, and her grandson-in-law Eric Charles Kincade.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, June 23, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes - East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Friendship Baptist Church, 7615 Matamoros. Interment will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 26, 2023 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
