Dr. Errol Allen Schoenbrun was born April 18, 1937 to Margaret Greenfield Schoenbrun and Milton Schoenbrun in Toledo, Ohio. He passed away after health struggles on Friday, September 27, 2024, surrounded by family. He was proceeded in death by his parents and younger brother, Sheldon Schoenbrun.
Errol grew up in Toledo and after attending The University of Toledo, he went to medical school at The Ohio School of Chiropody at The University of Cleveland and became a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. He opened his first podiatry practice in Las Cruces, NM and soon moved to El Paso, TX where he opened several offices during his lifetime of treating patients. He created the first patented surgical rehabilitation shoes and in the 1970’s worked with the Chief Medical Officer at the Federal Correctional Institution in La Tuna, TX helping treat inmates. As a Diplomat International College of Podiatric Laser Surgery, he was one of the first Podiatrists in El Paso to operate using lasers. Errol was Director of Medical Education at Southwestern General Hospital and built his nearly half-century practice of Podiatric Medicine on surgery, foot orthopedics and sports medicine.
An avid skier, Errol enjoyed weekends at both Elephant Butte, NM and Ruidoso, NM. He also was a car enthusiast and had artistic and musical talents he garnered from his parents, playing the saxophone and working with his hands. He enjoyed travelling, especially to beach locations. Errol was a master Donald Duck impersonator, bringing smiles and laughter to those he casually entertained.
Dr. Schoenbrun was survived by his wife Pilar Arriaga Schoenbrun, Daughters Jamie Schoenbrun Gerard (Cameron), Renee Schoenbrun Rubin both from Dallas, and Jeannine Schoenbrun of El Paso. Grandchildren include Hayden and Preston Gerard and Greyson and Griffon Rubin (Ella Barkai) all of Dallas. Sister-in-law Jacqueline Schoenbrun of Westport, CT and brothers-in-law Caesar Arriaga (Miriam) and Jose “Joe” Arriaga (Irene) of El Paso; nieces and nephews Lisa Schoenbrun of El Paso and Jodi Schoenbrun Carter (Brian) of Westport, CT, Laura Arriaga Baker (Brannon) of San Antonio, Bianca Arriaga Gonzalez (Andres) of El Paso, Omar Arriaga of El Paso and several grandnieces and grandnephews including Eleanor Schoenbrun of El Paso, Alejandro and Barrett Baker of San Antonio and Nathaniel and Oliver Gonzalez of El Paso also mourn his loss.
A Graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 10 a.m. at B’Nai Zion Cemetery, 3915 Gateway West Blvd., El Paso 79905. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
