Enrique “Da”” Tata”” Grandpa” Guerrero
Enrique Guerrero Jr., 78, passed away surrounded by family members and loved ones on Wednesday January 29, 2025. After 23 years of battling cancer, Enrique is now resting eternally with Our Lord.
Born in Cd. Juarez, CHIH, Enrique soon made his life in El Paso with his wonderful wife of 58 years, Irma. Enrique was a man of faith, who dedicated a great portion of his time to his church, Our Lady of Guadalupe. For many years, he was a resolute donor to St. Jude Hospital. Enrique was indeed a “Jack of all trades.” From his early youth working for tips at a gas station in Cd. Juarez, to maintenance at Downtown Holiday Inn; he also put on a show as a cook at infamous eateries such as Rosco’s Burgers, and Lucy’s Restaurant. As a humanitarian, important to Enrique was his mission of providing charity work, helping a person in need, without the need for accolades or reciprocity. Enrique was known in the community for his exterminating expertise he provided, which oftentimes also performed as a charity for those he served. A man of a thousand words (and stories), he captured your attention with his pitch, tone, and especially volume of his voice. He was a highly resilient man, who’s perseverance and determination became an expectation of his children and grandchildren. He taught us to stand tall, ask questions, and never settle for just a general response, instead always reiterating “Don’t Worry Be Happy”.
Throughout his 23-year journey of doctor’s visits, treatments, and hospital stays, Enrique remained quite the optimist and organized individual. Carrying his satchel everywhere he went, he jotted down everything in his calendar(s) and asked questions to doctors’ and medical staff, until it made sense to HIM. No matter what treatment they proposed, Enrique faced it head-on, placing his faith in God before modern medicine, and employing his pride and perseverance to see things through.
Enrique is preceded in death by his parents, Enrique Guerrero Sr. and Maria Cervantes, his brother Rodolfo Guerrero, and predeceased by his grandson Sebastian Cabada. Enrique is survived by his wife Irma Baray Guerrero, sisters Virginia Bolivar-Guerrero, Yolanda Cigarroa-Guerrero, brother Ruben Guerrero, daughters Lorena (George) Fonseca, Veronica Guerrero, and Bonnie (Daniel) Madrid. He is also survived by his grandchildren Briana (Joseph) Valente, Europa Cabada, Seneca Fonseca, Luis (Alexis) Cabada, Michael Fonseca, Daniel Madrid, Dominic Madrid, Danika Madrid; great-granddaughters Anabelle Cabada-Lucio and Inori Cabada, as well as many nephews and nieces. To many, Enrique was known as “Da,” “Tata,” and “Grandpa”, but to us he will always be “Dad”.
